Simple KFC Style Fried Chicken

KFC style chicken

I’m not a huge fan of chicken. Okay, probably not the best way to start a post about KFC style fried chicken. But it’s my truth. On occasion, I wouldn’t mind some chicken curry, or in this case, a simply spiced serving of crunchy breaded chicken with a spicy mayo sauce and a side of french fries which are my guilty pleasure. Cliche? Yes… , but this isn’t about me. You should make this recipe because it’s easy and uses simple pantry recipes without being overly spicy so kids can enjoy it too.

As much as I would like to give you a tantalizing backstory about what brought on this KFC style fried chicken recipe, there is none. If anything, what was running through my mind was the annoying stereotype about black people liking chicken, or going nuts about chicken- which case in point is not true because chicken isn’t always my first option- though I do admit to having the occasional craving for sweet and sour chicken.

How to Make This Simple Kfc Style Fried Chicken

Cut the chicken breast into thin steaks and using a kitchen mallet, bottle, or back end of a knife- tenderize the chicken. Using the spices, marinate the chicken for 30 minutes.

While the chicken marinates, prepare the wet batter by adding the flour, cornstarch, egg, and water into a bowl and whisking.

In a separate bowl, mix the ‘breading’ ingredients and stir.

Preheat the oil to 190°C

Sprinkle some of the wet batter on the breading flour and use a fork to mix it in (the aim is to create little lumps that will give the KFC-style effect on the breading).

Dip the marinated chicken into the wet batter and then into the ‘breading flour’.

Fry the chicken for 5-7 minutes or until its nicely brown

Wait about 3 minutes or until the oil is back to optimal temperature before adding the next batch (sieve the oil should you need to)

Set the fried KFC style fried chicken on kitchen paper towels to drain excess oil

Serve hot!

That was delicious! I attempted to make KFC-style fried chicken several times following multiple recipe websites, but each time was unsuccessful. Finally, your recipe piqued my curiosity, so I gave it a shot. So, with all the ingredients ready, I attempted your recipe and followed the directions to the letter. I got near the exquisite flavor given at any of these places. I’ll make it again and serve it during family gatherings. Thanks.
